In 2023, the General Sports Law was sanctioned, regulating sports practice in the country for the first time. The documentary Footballs delves into three different football universes, bringing different but powerful realities of how football is a great tool for social development. In Quilombo in the backlands of Pernambuco, on the outskirts of Santo André or in the floodplains of the East Zone of São Paulo, football never stops happening. Footballs is a socio-political look at the different relationships that football awakens in Brazil. Neither the mud of the floodplains, nor the potholed asphalt nor socio-economic difficulties were able to prevent or motivate the practice of this sport. It was never just about football.
