Our crew shooting one of the many breathtaking sunsetsThis series of 13 26’ documentaries is a great trip that, as the name suggests, will take us to the “Tapajós River Treasures”. The richness of the region comes from its fauna and flora, but also from the villagers from Barra de São Manoel, on the northernmost region of Mato Grosso, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
Those are the characters that bring their memories and experiences, allowing us to know the past, present and future of that place. Barra de São Manoel have risen from the junction of the Juruena and the Teles Pires (or São Manoel) rivers, whose extremely high amounts of water create the Tapajós river, region with unique beauty know as the most hidden and preserved part of the Amazonic biome.
The village started growing, acting as a comunity of rubber tappers from the brazilian northeast and indiginous groups from the Munduruku, Apiaká and Kayabi ethnicities
Nowadays this village is majorly composed by strongly mixed-race people with indian and northeastern origins. They survived on the riverside, challenged by life’s misfortunes, until the recreational fishing reached those waters. Most of them admit it was the best thing that has ever happened on the region on the last couple of years. Many locals live due to the recreational fishing, and achieved better ways of living because of it.
But who are those people? What do they tell us about the migrational flow on the Amazon and Brazil in general? What does the future holds to the Tapajós? This series aims to answer these questions.
